Weekend Recap

Friday
-Cruised into town, stopped at a roadside stand along the way, bought sweet potatoes and acorn squash, got a much needed eyebrow wax upon return to the ATX
-Grabbed a quick shower, changed clothes, returned rental truck
-Met the gang at Main Event to celebrate Parker's birthday, Darryl killed us all at bowling
-wondered why I ever stopped drinking cherry vodka sours

Saturday
-Departed for camping trip at Garner State Park

-The dogs did great hiking, they scrambled up and down the rocks like little mountain goats, we cooked a delicious beef stew in the dutch oven, here's the gist:
  • stew meat
  • red potatoes
  • mixed veggies
  • carrots
  • onion
  • garlic
  • sliced mushrooms
  • butter
  • dry onion soup mix
  • Tony Chacherie's Creole Seasoning
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Greek Seasoning
  • black pepper
  • 2 cans of beer
  • splash of Maker's Mark

Chop onion, potatoes, carrots, and garlic. Season, add butter and 1 can of beer. Put lid on dutch oven, put oven in coals, pour coals on lid. Leave for 15 minutes, rotate, let cook 15 more minutes. Add meat, other veggies, mushrooms, rest of beer and Makers Mark and more seasoning. Cook for 15 minutes, then rotate and cook for 15 more. It turned out to be crazy tasty. Santa needs to bring me a dutch oven if Darryl wants more meals like this camping. I priced them a while back and they were a little steep.

Sunday

-Drove back to Austin, washed dogs, washed melted marshmellow that had mysteriously made its way into the fur on Petey's rump

-cleaned up from camping, caught up on my Tivo, tried new sushi place near my house for dinner, not impressed

A) So bummed we couldn't join you for camping, we would love to go next time!
B) Stew sounds so yummy! The Mario Batalli dutch oven from Crate & Barrel is way cheaper than Le Cruset and it was highly rated in Cooks Illustrated
C) Cherry Vodka sours... wow. I lived off those as a freshman in college!
D) Ginger needs a tag.
